5 Best Places to Take Pictures in OKC with Flowers

If flowers are your love language like mine and you’re dreaming of photos surrounded by color, Oklahoma City has some seriously beautiful options.

As an Oklahoma City photographer, I’ve photographed women, families, maternity sessions and motherhood in all kinds of locations around the metro, but flower sessions will always have a little extra magic. The catch? Oklahoma flowers do what they want. 😂 Most of these locations have a pretty short bloom season, which means timing matters.

If you’re searching for the best places to take pictures in OKC with flowers, these are five of my favorites in Oklahoma City and the surrounding metro.

1. Narrow Gate Farm | Lavender

If you’ve ever wanted to stand in a field of purple lavender at sunset, Narrow Gate Farm Company in Edmond needs to be on your list.

Narrow Gate has rows of beautiful lavender surrounded by natural Oklahoma scenery, making it perfect for maternity, motherhood, family or portraits. I especially love it when we can catch that warm evening light coming through the field.

Lavender season is also SHORT. Narrow Gate lists its peak purple bloom season June, although exact blooms can always vary depending on Oklahoma weather. The farm offers designated photography access during the season, so this is one of those locations we plan ahead for rather than deciding on at the last minute. I should note that there is a rental fee for use.

Best for: Maternity, motherhood, families and portraits
When to go: June
The vibe: Soft, romantic, purple and dreamy

2. Growing Paynes | Zinnias

Give me ALLLLLL the color.

Zinnias are one of my favorite flowers to photograph because they aren’t subtle. Pinks, oranges, yellows, reds… they create this incredible colorful backdrop that feels happy and playful instead of overly posed or formal.

My favorite options around the OKC metro is Growing Paynes. Growing Paynes is a seventh-generation family farm in Mustang with a seasonal flower patch that includes zinnias along with cosmos, snapdragons and other blooms.

These locations are especially good if you want photos that feel joyful and full of movement. Think kids running through flowers, snuggling your babies, twirling dresses, laughing and actually having FUN during family photos. This field also has a rental fee.

Best for: Families, motherhood, kids and colorful portraits
When to go: Summer into early fall, depending on the blooms
The vibe: Colorful, playful and JOYFUL

3. Private El Reno Field | Sunflowers

Nothing says Oklahoma summer quite like a giant field of sunflowers.

One of the locations I photograph at is a private sunflower field in El Reno, which means this isn’t a public location you can simply show up to. When it’s available, it is absolutely worth the drive from Oklahoma City.

Tall sunflowers, golden evening light and a wide-open Oklahoma sky make this one of those locations that does most of the decorating for us.

Sunflowers also have a limited window. Bloom dates can change from year to year based on planting dates, heat, rain and Oklahoma doing Oklahoma things, so I don’t promise an exact date months in advance. Once I know they’re getting close, it’s GO TIME and even then, that may change. This field also has a rental fee and has canola available in the spring!

Best for: Families, motherhood, maternity and portraits
When to go: Typically summer – July
The vibe: Golden, warm, happy and very Oklahoma

4. Will Rogers Gardens | A Little Bit of Everything

Can’t decide on one specific flower? This may be your spot.

Will Rogers Gardens is one of my favorite classic photo locations in Oklahoma City because the look changes throughout the growing season. Instead of one giant field of a single flower, you get landscaped gardens, pathways, greenery and different varieties of flowers blooming at different times.

That variety also means we can create several different looks during one session without going anywhere else. It’s especially beautiful when you want your photos to feel like you’re wandering through a garden rather than standing in the middle of a flower field.

Because the blooms change throughout the year, I recommend choosing this location because you love the garden feel rather than because you’re expecting one specific flower to be blooming.

Best for: Families, maternity, motherhood, and portraits
When to go: Spring through fall
The vibe: Classic garden and lots of variety

5. Wind Drift Orchard | Peach Blossoms

There is something ridiculously pretty about an orchard full of peach trees in bloom.

Wind Drift Orchard gives you rows of trees covered in soft pink blooms, open Oklahoma skies and that dreamy spring feel without looking overly manicured. When the peach trees are blooming, the entire orchard becomes a gorgeous backdrop for photos.

I especially love this location for motherhood, maternity and family sessions. The rows of trees give kids room to explore and families space to move, snuggle and play, while those tiny pink blossoms add just enough color without taking over the photos.

Like every flower location on this list, the timing is up to Mother Nature. Peach blossoms have a short window, and Oklahoma weather can change when they arrive from year to year. This is definitely one of those locations where we watch the trees and are ready to go when they are.

Best for: Motherhood, maternity, families and portraits
When to go: Marchish
The vibe: Soft, romantic, natural and a little bit country

When Is the Best Time for Flower Photos in Oklahoma?

This is where I give you the slightly annoying photographer answer: it depends.

Flowers don’t care about our calendars.

Oklahoma weather can move bloom dates earlier or later, and some of the prettiest locations on this list may only look their absolute best for a couple of weeks… and sometimes not at all. That’s why I keep an eye on bloom updates and plan seasonal sessions around what Mother Nature is actually doing rather than a date on the calendar.

Generally, you’ll find tulips in early spring, lavender around June, colorful summer flowers like zinnias throughout the warmer months and sunflowers during their summer bloom.

Which OKC Flower Location Is Right for Your Photos?

Don’t overthink it.

If you love soft and romantic, choose lavender. If you’re a COLOR person, give me the zinnias. Want something quintessentially Oklahoma? Sunflowers. Want variety and a classic garden feel? Will Rogers Gardens. Want bright spring color with an unmistakably downtown OKC setting? Tulips at Myriad Gardens.

The location is just the backdrop. You and the people you love are the part that matters.

I photograph families, motherhood, maternity and women throughout Oklahoma City and the surrounding metro, and I’ll help you choose a location that fits the way you want your photos to feel, not just what happens to look pretty on Instagram. There are plenty of options when you’re searching for the best places to take pictures in OKC, but if flowers are what you’re dreaming of, these five are at the top of my list.

If you’ve been dreaming about photos surrounded by flowers, don’t wait until you see everyone else’s sessions popping up in your feed. Many of these blooms don’t stick around long.
