A Celebration of Strength: Breast Cancer Survivor Boudoir Session

Boudoir

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, I am grateful to share a powerful story of self-love through a boudoir session with an inspiring breast cancer survivor. This session was a celebration of her journey and a reflection of her warrior spirit. She came to her boudoir session with a heart full of gratitude, and I was honored to capture her beauty, strength, and confidence.

Meet Angela, breast cancer warrior!

In her own words:
“I am a Wife, Mama to two amazing boys, Breast Sonographer/Ultrasound Tech, and a Breast Cancer Thriver. Faith, Family, and Friends are everything to me! I’m a girly girl who has never been afraid to get dirty, wrench on a car, or play football, and I am a proud Okie and love my Sooners!”

For this incredible woman, this boudoir session was about celebration. It was a moment to embrace her “beautifully scarred body” and to create images that capture her unique journey. She explained, “I wanted to book a session as a celebration: something just for me, to celebrate my beautifully scarred body. This session was very personal and these images are very personal as well, but not because of their nature, because of their meaning.”

After her mastectomy and choosing not to undergo reconstruction, she found herself in a new phase of self-discovery. She shared, “Breast cancer took so many things from me that most people consider womanly. Chemo took all of my hair, and I had a mastectomy to remove my breasts and chose to not have any breast reconstruction. And yet, I can look in the mirror now, and see a stronger woman than I ever thought I could be, and I feel more womanly and more confident in my own skin than I ever have. I am proud of these scars because I earned every single one and each tells a story.”

In addition to celebrating her journey, she shared the life-changing lessons she has gained along the way. “Facing a breast cancer diagnosis is a life-altering experience, but I am thankful for the lessons I have learned on this journey. I have learned that we are all given stories in our lives for a reason, and choosing to use those stories to connect with others is the best use of our experiences. I have found my voice and learned to advocate for myself. I have learned that true beauty comes from confidence and strength.”

Her words are a reminder that boudoir photography is so much more than photos—it’s a journey embracing every part of ourselves. It’s an essential part of any self-love journey. She left me with a sentiment that perfectly captures her resilient spirit: “I can actually say that I am thankful for breast cancer because of what it taught me. It gave me a new outlook on life and has allowed me to realize the blessings that I have had all along and to cherish every single moment.”

For anyone on a journey of self-love and resilience

Remember, that you are stronger and more beautiful than you may know. Your beauty is more than skin deep; it goes beyond your physical features. It’s not defined by society’s standards or outward appearances but shines from within you.

A boudoir session for a breast cancer survivor, or any woman, offers you a chance to celebrate that beauty in its entirety. It’s a space to honor your journey, recognize your scars as symbols of resilience, and see yourself with a newfound love and appreciation. Through each image, I aim to capture not just your physical form but the essence of your beauty—your confidence, strength, and the depth of your story.

For anyone who needs this reminder: you are beautiful, strong, and worthy of celebration just as you are. Just like Angela, being a warrior, who kicked cancer’s ass and is here with us to celebrate her journey.
